With the large number of different image sensors between film and digital cameras, it can get confusing as to see how the sensor size will change your field of view. Well have no fear Abel Cine Tech put together a nice little web app that helps you compare different sensor sizes. You should check it out.

I forget sometimes...
That there is a recommend feature on tumblr. If you have a spare pick this week, I’d love it if you would click here and try and get this blog out there to more people.

Tiffen Image Makers Interview: Garrett Brown
Tiffen (film gear/accessories) has several interviews online with different ASC members on a range of subjects regarding cinematography. The interview I enjoyed the most was Garrett Brown’s mainly because he breaks out the old school steadicam rig. Also his comments on what makes a good cinematographer is pretty interesting. You can find Garrett Brown’s interview here and the rest of...

The Jack-of-All-Trades Filmmaker is the Hardest to... →
While this isn’t directly about Cinematography, it’s still very good to know and keep in mind when applying or positions.  goingforpicture: Being a Jack of All Trades is actually quite detrimental to your career in the film industry. Sure, it’s good to have a base knowledge of how the positions work and how they interact with other positions, no one is denying that. However, the...

WatchWatch
rollingshutter: As promised, here is a video which shows how Fujifilms new Eterna 160/500 35mm/16mm film stock can be used in various environments. I received this with the latest edition of British Cinematographer so I’m not sure if this can be found online at all. You’ll have to excuse the quality, I had to rip it off the DVD so the quality doesn’t really do the stock much justice.

GI Track is basically a cover that you can clamp over the track you already have and that smooths it out for continued use. Pretty good idea I think, saves money since you aren’t rebuying pieces of track. Check out...

Alexa Camera Simulator
Arri just released an online simulator of the Alexa camera. Very cool. Here’s the link and some extra info from Arri: The ALEXA Camera Simulator (ACS-1) is an interactive training tool to familiarize yourself with the menu navigation of the new ARRI ALEXA Digital Camera. The ACS-1 Main User Interface shows an identical simulation of the current ALEXA with software version 2.0. Get started...

– Natalie Portman (via goingforpicture) Agree 100%. A good AD is a great thing even for Camera and G&E.

News From IBC
There has been some news about recent cameras or ones that are close to coming out. Some interesting stuff that one should take note of. The first is some hands on reports from DVX user Barry Green who got to play with Panasonic’s AF-100. It’s their response to using larger CMOS chips that are found in DSLR but they are giving you tradition video camera body with features you’d...
