I’ve been given the opportunity to film a documentary that consists of traveling across the country. When I got the confirmation my mind immediately went on a shopping spree. I was thinking what new gear I needed to buy and started adding up the prices.  This isn’t a healthy habit. It’s real easy for a cinematographer or director or writer to want to start with big ideas....

When ASC Members Talk, You Should Listen →
Whether you are a big fan of Zacuto’s products or not, you should keep an eye out on their Film Fellas series. Each show brings together a great mix of filmmakers and they just let them talk. You get to sit in on some great conversations on a variety of subjects. This newest on has a number of ASC members and I’m sure you’ll take away some great insight.

I’m very interested in higher frame rate shooting. Art Adams recently posted about some Phantom 1000fps stuff he’s pitching to a client. It’s a good read with some informative stuff.

I’ve said this in just about every post but lighting is the most important aspect to creating a compelling image. Whether you are shooting on your iPhone to a R3D or on film, lighting is what will make your image stand out and give life to the image on screen. What I love about lighting is that it’s much more of a skill of trickery. You aren’t really lighting what’s there...
