Camera? Who cares...
The more feature films, shorts and random online videos I see, coupled with the more cameras I’ve been exposed to the less and less I care what camera you are shooting on. As long as you can expose for the image you want I couldn’t care less. It’s all about the lighting. You’ve probably heard it a thousand times before but you can light a cheap flip video camera and get a...

Safety
After watching a Canon 5D Mark 2 fall over today I have a word of warning to Camera and G&E. Safety of you and the gear is more important than rushing to make time. Nobody wants to see someone get hurt because of a dumb mistake and you don’t want to break some gear because of carelessness. So always double check, don’t rush set up if you can, and just generally make sure everything...

High ISO Ratings
It seems that with the arrival of DLSR cameras that shoot HD video, the ability to shoot in much lower light levels has made some shooters fall in love with them. All The Directors In The Room
This post will be short and sweet. To anyone out there that calls themselves a director, please have some sort of way of communicating how you want your film to look. Not just that but the shots as well. Just saying we’ll film it is no way of entering into production. Yes some big shot directors can pull that off but that’s after years of experience. You, no matter how good you think...

Climbing Ladders and Saying No
Anyone who’s been involved with production knows there is a natural built in hierarchy/ranks within the departments. The grips work under the key grip who works under the DP. The same can be said for other departments but those I don’t know nearly as much about. Now, I’m just ending my third semester taking film classes and being on set of all sizes. On the films were I’ve...

WatchWatch
While I usually don’t pay much attention to early test footage from new cameras, Arri must have known I love football (soccer) far too much to not give this a watch. The low light seems to hold up well. But honestly without any of the technical shooting information, it’s just another pretty demo real. But you can learn more from the behind the scene video. Which leads into a small...

NAB Show
AKA Camera Geek Christmas. A lot of news about new camera systems and such are going on all this week out in Vegas. While it’s always exciting to see new technology DPs don’t forget the most important thing. It’s not about the camera or the fancy rig you have. We are there to help visually tell the story with light and camera movement. Don’t fall into the hype about...
